Falklands hero Simon Weston criticized Trump’s reported actions as a “hissy fit” and speculated on the potential for the upcoming state visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla to strengthen UK-US relations amidst conflicts in the Middle East. Trump’s criticisms of Keir Starmer have strained relations between the US and the UK, as Trump seeks to rally British support for his Iran policies.
With hopes that King Charles could temper Trump’s stance on the Falklands during the state visit marking the 250th anniversary of US independence, Weston highlighted the need for respect towards the Falklands population and veterans who served during the conflict. The Falklands War in 1982 resulted in 255 British Armed Forces personnel losing their lives and 777 others being wounded.
