A prominent BBC presenter is selling her secluded private island in Scotland’s Loch Lomond, known as “Wallaby Island,” for a substantial £3 million. Kirsty Young and her husband purchased Inchconnachan island for £1.6 million in 2020 but are now looking to sell due to a change in their plans.
The island, previously owned by the Colquhoun family, has been uninhabited for 20 years and is home to a rare colony of red-necked wallabies, the only wild population in Scotland. Lady Arran Colquhoun introduced the wallabies to the island in the 1940s, and they have thrived there ever since.
Young and her husband had envisioned transforming the 100-acre island into a holiday rental destination with conservation efforts to protect the wallabies. However, they have now listed the island with luxury real estate agent Sotheby’s, offering it for sale with two options: £3 million with planning permission or £10 million as a fully developed investment.
The listing highlights the island’s seclusion, elevated viewpoints, and stunning shoreline views towards Ben Lomond. The potential for a luxury retreat on the island is included in the higher-priced option, promising a comfortable and picturesque setting for various activities.
Located just a 10-minute boat ride from Loch Lomond Golf Club, the island offers a unique opportunity for buyers seeking exclusivity and natural beauty. Nick Jones, the husband, expressed his change in priorities as a reason for selling the island, emphasizing the importance of a simpler lifestyle post his health battle.
