Numerous users, particularly Samsung device owners, have encountered significant screen flickering issues when using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances where text vanishes entirely, while others see only empty white boxes instead of email content.
Expressing their frustrations, Gmail users have turned to social media to voice their concerns. One user named Jeremiah took to X to address the problem: “@gmail, when will Android function properly on folding phones like my Samsung Fold? The persistent screen flickering on the inner display for four days is completely unacceptable.”
Similar grievances have been shared on Google’s support platforms. An individual detailed their experience, stating, “Whenever I open an email, the screen flickers, rendering the content unreadable. Despite various troubleshooting attempts like force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, device restarts, and updates, the issue persists.”
Google product expert Kimiya Kitani attributed the problem to Android System WebView, a key component enabling apps to present web content within the application interface.
Kitani mentioned, “It appears that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are facing intermittent challenges with Android System WebView,” noting that Google has been alerted to the issue.
While the exact number of affected users remains uncertain, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted.
Meanwhile, a temporary workaround has been suggested. Kitani proposed rotating the device as a potential solution to halt the screen flickering.
The recommended procedure is straightforward: view the email in portrait mode, switch to landscape mode until the screen displays correctly, then revert to portrait orientation.
As users await a permanent fix from Google, this method seems to offer a simple solution to the problem.
